"…Even the outdated, inconsistent, self-doubting ideas of the older generation are more open to dialogue than the slick stupidity of Junior. Even the neurotic oddities and deformities of our elders stand for character, for something humanly achieved, in comparison to pathic health, infantilism raised to the norm. One realizes with horror that earlier, opposing one’s parents because they represented the world, of one even worse. Unpolitical attempts to break out of the bourgeois family usually lead only to deeper entanglement in it, and it sometimes seems as if the fatal germ-cell of society, the family, were at the same time the nurturing germ-cell of uncompromising pursuit of another. With the family there passes away, while the system lasts, not only the most effective agency of the bourgeoisie, but also the resistance which, though repressing the individual, also strengthened, perhaps even produced him. The end of the family paralyses the forces of opposition. The rising collectivist order is a mockery of a classless one: together with the bourgeois it liquidates the Utopia that once drew sustenance from motherly love."

"The less you eat, drink, buy books, go to the theatre, go dancing, go drinking, think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save and the greater will become that treasure which neither moths nor maggots can consume – your capital. The less you are, the less you give expression to your life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life and the more you store up of your estranged life."

"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge - myth is more potent than history - dreams are more powerful than facts - hope always triumphs over experience - laughter is the cure for grief - love is stronger than death."

- Robert Fulghum

If true - and my guess is that, for most people, it is - then overall, this belief is unfortunate. The inverse of most of these statements is where actual power lies. This belief puts its faith in phantom power over personal ghosts and phantasms, placating and consoling but effecting little beyond that interior.

But I’ll grant you the last two postulates. Laugh and love in spite of everything, because these are the healthiest of delusions and the realest of deliriums. Laugh and love but shun the rest as prisons of the mind. Laugh and love and then impose your interior truths on the world. The rest traps you within yourself; love and laughter break through to the Real.

Devics - Lie To Me

Another band I saw in NYC, @ the Bowery Ballroom, same place I saw M&K.. v. different vibe on Devics’ night though.

Not sure if this video is the official one, but it reminds me of something I did involving water in a jar etc. for Art of Film class which I was supposed to tweak on Avid the semester after, but my work got deleted suspiciously off the studio pc. One conspiracy lead to another (the second being self-imposed), and since laziness always trumps art, I never re-edited it — though I think I still have the raw footage somewhere…
